During an emotionally intense internship at the Make-a-Wish-Foundation, Jess Ekstrom worked with kids who’d lost their hair because of cancer treatments. She noticed a lot of them wore colorful headbands instead of wigs and hats because it made them itchy! These headbands made them more confident!

So Jess started Headbands of Hope, which sells bejeweled headbands, turbans, hair clips, and leather or lace bands, and for every one they sell, the company donates one to a child with cancer! So far they’ve donated over 200,000 headbands to children’s hospitals across America and five other countries.

Jess has heard from so many Headband of Hope recipients who’ve shared with her how much these pretty little accessories boost their confidence and help them feel like themselves again! This inspires her to keep doing it. Jess said “It’s not about what we do when we dream, it’s about what we do when we wake up. We can have the best ideas, but they mean nothing without action.”
