A strange thing happened in Owen Sound this weekend. Now before all of Grey County gets angry with me, I think Owen Sound is a wonderful little city (even though I hope our Rangers kick the Attack’s butt in the playoffs)! Seriously, I’m a big fan of the city and its people. But wait until I tell you what happened to me on Saturday…

I had a few hours to kill before the game so I caught a cab into downtown Owen Sound from our hotel near the rink. I asked at the front desk of the hotel for a recommendation for a good coffee shop to visit and they recommended a couple of big chains. I try to “live local” as much as possible so I asked instead for a place I couldn’t visit in any old OHL town. And that’s how I ended up at the Frogpond Cafe.

But here’s the crazy part…

I’m sitting in a window seat at the Frogpond Cafe, looking out onto downtown Owen Sound, and I snap a picture to share on Twitter and Instagram (see above). The next thing I know, a Twitter follower from Toronto asks if I was at the Frogpond. When I said yes, he told me his buddy Neil owns the place. I thought that was an interesting connection. Buddy from Toronto opens funky coffee shop in Owen Sound, and recognizes random picture from Twitter.

But wait, there’s more…

On Instagram, one of our listeners from Cambridge recognized the Frogpond right away. She said the building across the street was a dead giveaway. Again, I was kinda blown away. How does everyone know so much about Owen Sound, and the Frogpond Cafe in particular? Until Saturday, I’d never heard of the Frogpond Cafe. And I’m starting to think that I was the only one. 😉

Anyway, if you’re ever in Owen Sound, it’s a great spot to visit. And they really love their Attack! But have I mentioned that I really hope the Kitchener Rangers kick the Attack’s butt?? Big game tonight at The Aud! Hope to see you there.
