Magic-Number-108-Web-Slider

You know one of my favourite sayings: numbers never lie. And they don’t! 2 + 2 will always equal 4 and if I have ten cookies and Producer Paulie asks me to share three, I will still have ten cookies. See? That’s truth, right there.

But even I’m having a hard time with this.

The Chicago Cubs start the World Series tonight versus Cleveland and the Cubs have not won the trophy since 1908. That’s 108 years! So, naturally, fans are looking for every possible angle that will convince them the Cubs can finally win. And so I present to you the “magic” number 108.

For example, it takes 108 outs to win a World Series (27 outs per game x four games). Cubs game broadcasts are transmitted from the top of the Willis Tower, which is 108 stories tall. The distance from both the left field and right field foul poles at Wrigley Field (where the Cubs play) is 108 metres. 108 is a sacred number in yoga, and Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta does yoga six days a week. See how we’re beginning to stretch this a bit?

The list goes on to include references to the length of Hollywood movies that featured the Cubs winning the World Series, the weight of the World Series trophy, and where Cubs pitcher Jon Lester was born. Read all about it right here.

I’m cheering for the Cubs to end the century-long drought but even the number-lover in me is having a hard time stretching it this far.

Play ball!
