Most of us don’t need an excuse to drink wine every day. You can’t help it if a bottle is within arms reach…or short drive. Either way today is National Wine Day…but how did it start?

The purpose of National Wine Day is to spread the love and health benefits of wine.  Wine has always had a huge role within history, love, religion, and relationships.  We embrace the positive benefits of wine such as reduced risk of heart disease AND enhancing the flavour of foods. The weekend roles around, wine becomes uncorked, and friends are made. Although beer is a favourite choice for the summer, wine can be used in so many summer drinks. Spritzers and Sangria can be a great choice to beat the heat this summer. Plus Blake Shelton loves the taste of sangria (on your lips) .

We all know that food and wine makes the world go ’round. Chocolates and cheeses and meats all pair well with different wines, but what about some weird pairings that have yet to be tried or maybe underestimated?

How about trying a Bierzo with a Tomato Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The sharp cheese and tomato will bring out the soft flavour of the wine that much more.

One of the most weird pairings that I have seen is a Riesling with Gold Fish Crackers. The light tasting wine balances the salty cheese bites.

It is even said that a PB and J Sandwich goes well with Argentine Torrontes. It’s a very spicy dry white wine, but the sandwich will help with that.

You get to be a kid and adult all in one!

Bacon and Eggs and a Bordeaux give you a reason to drink in the morning (not like you need one).

Whether you eat fries with Champagne or chill with a Pinot Noir and some cupcakes, enjoy the taste and the health benefits of this grapeful nectar.

BUT we also need to remind you to enjoy responsibly. Find a safe way home after drinking.

Happy National Wine Y’all
