I spent a lot of time at the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex over the past week, watching the Waterloo Wolves take part in the Midget AAA Central Region Championship. While the tournament didn’t go the way the Wolves would have liked, I was really happy to see something else.

The city of Waterloo is doing something awesome. I actually noticed this a few weeks ago when I was at RIM Park for the provincial speed skating championships (that’s where this picture was taken). Waterloo is using a local supplier for its ice clearing machines! We’ve always called them Zambonis…but that’s actually a brand name. It’s kinda like the whole Kleenex versus tissue thing.

Anyway, Waterloo is using Olympia ice clearing machines. They’re made right next door in Elmira! How cool is that? Good job by Waterloo. I checked out the ice clearing machine taking care of the rink outside Kitchener city hall and it’s not an Olympia. I think we’re going to have to work on that…

See ya at the rink.
